Te Roroa Honey Limited

Te Roroa Honey was established in July 2014.  With over 200 hives the business met their first honey flow and first harvest for 2014/2015.  Beekeeper Blanche Murray was contracted by Te Roroa Honey to manage the hive operations until Te Roroa gained the knowledge and expertise.

Erana Tane Clarkson entered into the overall Managers role in November of 2014.   Utilizing her business qualifications and skills Erana sees that the Manuka honey is the space to be in and is excited about the potential growth for Te Roroa’s Manuka honey within the industry and the opportunities to broaden Te Roroa’s local distribution chain as a wholesaler into the international world market.
“Waipoua Manuka Honey” of Te Roroa was registered in 2015 and is now the exclusive brand of Te Roroa now recognized throughout New Zealand.  In the same year an indigenous trade partnership was signed with Trade Aid that recognized that honey production is a natural extension of Te Roroa’s Kaitiaki responsibilities looking after both land and people.

The aim for Te Roroa that will assist Te Roroa Honey’s growth over the next 5-10 years is to
  • Increase hive numbers to 1500 by year 2017/2018
  • Provide beekeeper training programs by 2017
  • Investigate the regeneration of retired forestry blocks, marginal and riparian margins into Manuka and native bush that will provide much needed income and employment opportunities in Northland.
